It happened to all of us. You ran to quickly grab the egg from the refrigerator but then accidentally dropped the egg on the ceramic cooktops. The phone rang when you were cooking. You picked up the lines, talked for a few minutes and the pot of water boiled over. After every kitchen mishap, the modern and shiny ceramic cooktop was full of splatters, baked-on grease and burn-on stains.

Ceramic cooktops are always centerpieces in the kitchen but they will immediately turn into catastrophes after every single one of those kitchen mishaps. If you have ever been struggling to deal with the cooktop-related mess after those kitchen incidents, this article is for you. In this article, we will share with you some tips and guidelines to properly clean ceramic cooktops and keep them with you as long as possible.

How to clean burnt-on stains off ceramic cooktops ?

Thing you will need:

  • Baking soda
  • White diluted vinegar
  • Two soft cloths

So, how to clean burnt-on stains off ceramic cooktops ?

  • Step 1: Sprinkle the baking soda:

Sprinkle the baking soda powder over the cooktop’s surface. You don’t need to stick to the specific recommended amount of baking soda. Just sprinkle as much as you want to have a thin cover layer of baking soda on the entire surface. You can use a container with hole punches through to make the distribution of baking soda more evenly and easier.

  • Step 2: Make the solution:

Mixing one part of white diluted vinegar with two parts of water in an empty spray bottle. Spray the mixture on baking soda- applied areas. Use the sufficient amount of vinegar mixture to activate the baking soda to make it bubble.

  • Step 3: Place the cloth:

Place a damp cloth soaked in warm water with dish detergent over the cooktop. Leave it there for about 15 minutes. Make sure the cloth you get is large enough to cover the problematic area.

  • Step 4:  Wipe down the surface:

After 15 minutes, use the damp cloth to wipe down the surface. Gently scrub away as many burnt-on stains as you can during this step.

  • Step 5: Rinse the surface:

Soak another clean cloth in plain water to rinse the surface and wipe off any remaining baking soda on the cooktops. Repeat this step until no food residues or cleaning solution remain on the surface.

Baking soda and vinegar are at-home cleaning solutions that proved their astounding ability for cooktop cleanups. However, sometimes, you may encounter unprecedentedly stubborn stains that no matter how hard you try to scrub, the stains won’t lift up. In that case, you should opt for something more powerful to be able to restore the cleanliness of your cooktop. That’s when specialised cleaning agents for cleaning cooktops come into their own. Thanks to the remarkably strong cleaning power of these dedicated cleansers, the cleaning process is pretty simple. All you need to do is distribute the solution evenly on the entire cooktop’s surface. Leave it there for a few minutes, then use a clean cloth to wipe it off for the sparkling finish.

How to remove scratches on the ceramic cooktops ?

Things you will need:

  • Baking soda
  •  A small bowl
  • Two soft clothes

The steps taken:

  • Step 1: Examine the scratches. The chance of successfully removing scratches mainly depends on the position and the depth of the scratches. The scratches on the heating element or cracks cannot be dulled or fixed without appliance specialist’s intervention.
  • Step 2: Making a paste: Combine two teaspoons of baking soda with one teaspoon of water in a small bowl. Make sure that the paste is wet, loose to avoid further scratches on the cooktop’s surface.
  • Step 3: Apply the paste. Use your fingers or a damp cloth to apply the paste on the scratched areas. Gently buff away the scratches or scuffs in circular motion.
  • Step 4: Wipe off the remaining paste with a clean, soft cloth.

Note: The scratches cannot be removed completely. All the effort we put in is to dull the scratches so they become less annoying to look at.

Ceramic cooktops’ scratch prevention:

  • Cast iron cookware is not recommended for using on a ceramic cooktop. The roughness of cast iron’s bottom is a primary cause for serious scratches on the surface.
  • Rather lift and transfer pans than move them back and forth across the ceramic surface.
  • Avoid sugary spills when boiling or cooking sugar mixture. A sugar substance can stain the cooktop, leaving yellowish spots that are difficult to remove.

Useful tips to extend your cooktops’ life:

  • Deal with the spills as soon as possible. Whenever you accidentally spill something on the cooktops, don’t put the mess aside. Clean it immediately.
  • Never use abrasive materials and chemicals on ceramic cooktops. They often leave permanent damage on the surface. Always read the instructions carefully and follow exactly the directions from the manufacturers.
  • Stick to the daily cleaning routine to retain the cleanliness and beautiful shine of your cooktops.
  • Always let the cooktop’s surface completely cool down before giving it a decent cleaning.

Conclusion:

Ceramic cooktops are sleek, stylish kitchen items that no modern homeowner is able to resist the temptation of equipping their kitchen with one. However, it’s not easy to retain the cleanliness and beauty of a smooth cooktop’s surface, especially in the hectic world. If you don’t have time to clean your cooktop or other kitchen appliances by yourself, you can book our kitchen cleaning service at sparklingandbeyond.com or call us on 415-966-1101.
